I had the pleasure of meeting the incredibly talented Seasick Steve today at the launch of his new album ”Sonic Soul Surfer” (which I got a preview of at last year, have a look/read here) at HMV in Oxford Street. He comes across as a really nice and genuine guy, and after chatting to him for a bit (some of it being in norwegian) I now know that he’s happily married to a norwegian lady, and that when he’s not on the road they live together in a beautiful small town in Norway.
Before I left I had a browse around the shop and picked up the new Mini Mansions album ”The Great Pretenders” which is absolutely sensational, and ”Strangers to Ourselves” by Modest Mouse, which I’m currently listening to. Having only previously heard the single ”Lampshades on Fire”, I’ve got really high expectations to this album.

Earlier this week (yesterday..), Mini Mansions played a mini-gig at Sister Ray Ace in Shoreditch. Their set was a combination of old and new songs - a few from their 2010 self-titled album ”Mini Mansions", covers of Blondie’s heart of glass and Sparks’ Sherlock Holmes, plus some new treats from their upcomming album ”The Great Pretenders”, that is due on the 23 of March on T-Bone Burnett’s Electromagnetic recordings. So, save the date and get to the nearest record store, this one’s a must-have.
